GNU, founded in June, 1958, is located in Ganzhou city along Beijing-Kowloon Railway, a famous historical and cultural city in the south of Jiangxi province. It is the only provincial normal university with postgraduate study in the bordering region among Jiangxi, Guangdong, Fujian and Hunan provinces. During the past 50 years, GNU has brought up more than 60,000 qualified students of various specialties. In 2007, GNU was evaluated to be excellent in the undergraduate teaching level by the Ministry of Education.
GNU’s disciplines are various, including 8 systematic disciplines such as Arts, Science Law and so on. There are 8 key disciplines of Jiangxi province, 14 academic schools, 47 undergraduate majors, 16 master-degree programs including Special History, Organic Chemistry, Course and Pedagogy and so on in GNU. At present, there are more than 21,000 full-time college students and 7,000 adult college students. Students are enrolled from 29 provinces (autonomous cities and regions) in China and overseas such as Korea, Thailand and Ukraine GNU has a qualified staff for teaching work. There are 400 senior professional technicians, 480 teachers with PhD degree or master degree ,12 persons selected as “New Century Hundred and Thousand Talent Project in China” and “New Century Excellent Talent Plan” by the Ministry of Education and Jiangxi province, 8 professors entitled with special allowance by the State Council or Jiangxi Provincial Government and 54 teachers with honors of provincial academic and technical leaders, provincial famous teachers, and provincial young promising scholars. It engages some well-known scholars in China as honorary professors and part-time professors. It regularly employs foreign teachers from USA, Australia, Japan, Korea, Ukraine, and India etc..
GNU sticks to the schooling aim of focusing on students’ quality. The students have a good mastery on basic theories. Their fundamental skills and all-round development are enhanced continuously. In the past three years, the students win 2,647 honors in competitions out of Jiangxi province, including 112 honors of national 1st prize, and 4 international 2nd prizes. The university stood highest of regular employment rate of undergraduates in Jiangxi province in 2004.
Since the tenth “Five-year Plan”, GNU has done its best to carry out the strategies of “Strengthening with Talents”and“1316 Talent Project”. The faculty is properly constructed with teachers, who like their teaching work and scientific research. There are 12 teachers selected as “Hundred and Thousand Talents of 21st century” by country, “Excellent Talent Projects of 21st century” by the Ministry of Education, and “Hundred and Thousand Talents” by Jiangxi Province, 8 professors entitled with special allowance by the State Council or Jiangxi Provincial Government, a lot of teachers entitled VIPs of key academic research, famous scholars, young promising scholars and important professors. GNU employs home and abroad famous experts as honorary professors, part-time professors and foreign teachers from America, Australia, Japan, Korea, Ukraine and India etc
