Gender Research Centre

Gender Research Centre at the Chinese University of Hong Kong is the first and still the only programme on gender studies in tertiary education in Hong Kong. Established in 1997, GRS is interdisciplinary in nature, with expertise drawn from different academic departments such as psychology, sociology, cultural studies, anthropology, social work, translation, history and linguistics. It offers coursework and research opportunities with an inter-disciplinary team of faculty members. It provides students with a broad-based education in traditional academic disciplines while specializing in gender studies.
GRC is dedicated to promote awareness and interest in gender and sexuality issues on campus, in schools, and in the wider society. Members include scholars from Social Science, Humanities, Medicine, Business Administration, and other interdisciplinary fields who are involved with the research activities of the GRC. The programmes offered by GRC are bachelor of social science in gender studies, masters, and doctorate programmes. The activities of the GRC are annual gender role work shop, conferences, seminars, consulting, etc. To many CUHK graduates, some of the fondest memories and lasting friendships originate from the Colleges.

As per the records there are total 29,676 students are there including under graduate students around 15,901, and post graduate students about 13,866. The affiliated institutes are Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL), Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), International Association of Universities (IAU), Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia (ACUCA). The research programmes under the GRC are grouped into 4 major themes they are gender and health, gender development and globalisation, gender equality and civil society, gender identity and culture. The research programmes will be published in the form of books, proceedings, E-news letters, journal articles, bibliography.
