The Grenoble Alpes University is a third largest university in Grenlobe, France. It was founded in May 1339 by Humbert II of Viennois, as university of Grenlobe, due to French politics changes and rules it was split in 1970s and again reunited in 2016 as Grenoble Alpes University. The university basically known for its research and education in engineering and natural sciences and it cited among the best and innovative universities in Europe. Recently university becomes major scientific area of Europe. In 1805-1808, Napolean again re-established the major departments of universities like law and science. Due to riots among university students in 1968, the university divided into different institutions; Medical University of Grenoble in 1987 which renamed as Joseph Fourier University (UJF), University of Economics and Law in 1987 which renamed as Pierre Mendès-France University (UPMF), University of Languages and Letters in 1987 which renamed as Stendhal University. In January 2016, these institutes reunited and form a common university which named as Grenoble Alpes University. The university consist of 24 teaching departments, schools and institutes as well as 106 research departments. Different departments in university are as follows: Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy, Economics, Law, Arts and Humanities, Department of Foreign Languages, Social Sciences, Sciences of Sports and Physical Activities, Undergraduate Studies in Sciences and Technologies, Chemistry and Biology, Computer Sciences, Mathematics, and Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Mechanics, Earth and Environment, Sciences at Drome-Ardeche, Polytech Grenoble School of Engineering, Observatory for Sciences of the Universe, University Centre for French Studies, Institute of Business Administration, Institute of Urban Studies. The university ranked in top 100 and 200 top international rankings for some of its scientific fields. The university contains 45,000 students and 5500 staff including 3,000 teachers and lecturers and 2,500 administrative and technical staff. There are 24 faculties, institutes and schools with 80 laboratories. The budget of university calculated € 450 million 500 000 m2 of heritage on 12 sites spread over 6 departments. The university campus is distributed in 175-hectare land. The university headed by the president Lise Dumasy. University is affliated to different organisation like; Aurora, EUA, AUF, Santander Network, Community Grenoble Alpes University. Many European politics have attended their studies in the Law department like; Richard von Weizsäcker, President of Germany, Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, President of Iceland, Jacqueline Kennedy, First Lady of the United States, James Compton, former CEO of the Chicago Urban League. In Mathematics and science there are some prominent scientists like; Jean-Jacques Favier, CNES Astronaut, Charles Elachi, Director of the JPL, Joseph Sifakis, Computer scientist and Alim Louis Benabid, Neurosurgeon.
