Guangdong university of science and technology was established in 2003 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It has now grown into a full-time ordinary university with disciplines of Management, Economics, Literature, Art, etc. while focusing on Engineering. Its goal is cultivating graduates with high occupational skills to meet the need of social and economic development. GUST has adequate facilities, pleasurable scenery and convenient access. The library covers 23,700 square meters and is equipped with 1,780,000 books. There are more than 14,900 students and over 700 teachers; 32% of them are associate professors or higher and 55% of them is holders of Master’s degree or above. The university consists of 6 departments, 2 sections and 2 colleges .Departments are Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Department, Computer Department, Management Department, Finance and Economics Department, Applied English Department, Art Department. Divisions are Basic Courses Teaching Section, Moral and Political Education Section . Continuing Education College, International Education College are the two colleges under Guangdong university of science and technology. Currently it is offer 18 majors for bachelor’s degree and 8 majors for associate degree. Presently, GUST has established 19 provincial and university excellent courses, and another 10 university exquisite courses, 19 university excellent courses and 200 courses in the cloud are also under construction. GUST lays emphasis on faculty’s research work and achieves some amazing results. From 2011 to 2014, 8 provincial major and key research projects are initiated; 9 key projects and 14 general projects at provincial level or above, 1 key projects and 12 general items at municipal level, 20 key items and 43 general items at university level are under research; 2 key projects, 23 general projects at provincial level or above, 15 general items at municipal level, 10 key items and 33 general items at university level are completed. Faculty of GUST win 72 Research Awards and 45 Teaching Awards at provincial level or above, 49 Research Awards and 17 Teaching Awards at municipal level, published 2084 papers, 121 monographs or textbooks, and have been authorized with 29 items of patents. GUST attaches importance to promote the improvement of teaching quality through professional and technical skills contest. In 2013, GUST has been approved by the Ministry of Education and authorized the qualification of admitting foreign students. In 2014 with official approval from the Ministry of Education it has been entitled to enroll students from Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
