Guiyang University (GYU) is located in Longdongbao, Guiyang. GYU is supported by both Guizhou provincial and Guiyang municipal governments. In 2010, MOE listed GYU as one of the ten pilot universities to be assessed for the National Teaching Qualification Evaluation for Regular Institutions of Higher Learning. GYU was assessed by the MOE expert team and praised for the achievements GYU now offers 9 disciplines and increased specialties from 6 at the beginning to 44 at present.
Up to now, there are more than 12,000 full-time registered students. By implementing the Strengthening University by Talents Strategy, GYU now has 627 full-time teachers, with 69 professors, 1 research librarian, and 262 associate professors. There are 53 teachers with Ph. D degree, and 389 teachers with master degree. GYU emphasizes “being practical and serving the community”. In GYU, Science and Technology Industrial Park, Research Center for the Construction of Ecologically-civilized City, and Research Center for Yangming School and Local Culture are established to help the economic and social development of Guiyang city and Guizhou province. GYU works tightly with local enterprises and achieves significant progress in university-industry-research cooperation.
In recent 5 years, various social and natural science research projects have been conducted, among which, 20 are supported by China state government, 14 are supported by MOE and General Administration of Sports of China, and 182 are supported by Guizhou provincial government. Great attention has been paid to the construction of platforms for teaching, research, and scientific innovation. For teaching platforms, GYU now owns 2 National Bases of Outside Campus Practice Education for University Students, 4 provincial model centers for experimental teaching, 4 featured key laboratories supported by Guizhou Provincial Department of Education, 3 provincial teaching teams. For scientific and technological innovation platforms, GYU first initiated Science and Technology Industrial Park in Guizhou, and it is already accepted as provincial university industrial park.
GYU was approved to establish 1 provincial collaborative innovation center, 1 scientific and technological research center under Guizhou Provincial Department of Science and Technology, 2 featured engineering technology centers under Guizhou Provincial Department of Education. In addition, GYU built 1 Guizhou Outstanding Scientific and Technological Innovative Talents Team, 4 Excellent Scientific and Technological Innovative Talents Teams of Guizhou Universities and 1 provincial research base for humanities and social sciences. GYU established 20 correspondence and education stations for higher degree education of adults.
GYU is responsible for the examination for the self-study program of higher degree education. It’s also the service center and reforming pilot spot for higher degree education of Guizhou. School of Continuing Education of GYU won Advanced Group of National Higher Education Self-study Examination award for 3 times.
It’s a key national base for preserving Intellectual Property Rights and patent, a demonstration station for national workers’ education training, a project station for implementing National Training Program for Middle School and Primary School Teachers in Guizhou, a training base for education cadres and an appointed organization for informatization and E-government affairs training station of Guizhou, and the training base for talents cultivation of service socialization in Guiyang.
