In year 1946, the university chartered as Gaeseong Normal School in Gyeonggi-do. In year 1952, they changed the schools name to Incheon National School of Education and moved its location. The university was opened as Incheon College of Education in 1962. In 1993, the name changed to Incheon National University of Education. In year 2002, it was 28Ranked number one in the nationwide evaluation of universities of education by the JoongAng Daily. In 2003, the schools name changed to Gyeongin National University of Education.

The Educational Goals are to develop theories and practices of Korea’s elementary education, as well as to foster competent elementary school teachers. GINUE’s educational objectives are to serve community through education, as well as to teach educational philosophy and content knowledge to its students.
The university consists of 14 Undergraduate Departments; the Graduate School of Education (GSE), Gyeongin National University of Education (GINUE) exists to seek profound truth (Great Power), to foster teacher education (Great Love) and to develop democratic leadership (Great Light). GSE is dedicated to the study and improvement of education. They aspire to promote in-service teachers professional development in elementary education with their vocations and solid leadership so that they contribute to the improvement of education. The goal of GSE is to contribute to the empowerment of educators by; increasing understanding of theories in school education, improving practices in school education, contributing to the development of elementary education, Promoting in-service teachers professional development.
The graduate school offers Master’s as well as Doctoral programs in various disciples. Gyeongin National University of Education has various scholarship programs, including national scholarships, internal scholarships, and external scholarships. In addition, with various student loan systems for school expenses, GINUE endeavors to ensure that no student will quit for want of money. The Scholarships granted are National Scholarship, Internal Scholarship, External Scholarship, and Financial Aid.
