Hansei University was established in 1953. The University received the government's recognition as a four year collage in 1985, and became accredited as a four-year Bible College. In 1991, the Graduate School of Theology was established and Hansei was raised to the level of a university in 1993. In 1997, the name was finally changed to Hansei University and it is affiliated with Yoido Full Gospel Church.
Hansei University has extended its academic endeavours not only to theology, but also to the humanities and social sciences, International Language, Information Technology, Art, Design, and Nursing. In its 56 year history, more than 8,000 students have graduated, going out to evangelize Korea and the world and contributing to society in many different areas. The university is widely recognized especially for choral music. Regarded as one of the top choral music universities in Eastern Asia, Hansei University boasts a choral music faculty of six professor/conductors on top of its 40+ music faculty. The university is planning to open an international school for choral music in 2015/16. Composer Hyo-Won Woo has served on the university's faculty.
Hansei University has opened a door of opportunity for our students to develop as global specialists with a wealth of experience, as they engage in exchange programs with approximately 70 outstanding universities in 22 countries worldwide, including the USA, China, and Japan. Hansei University recently opened a library and cultural complex called, 'Youngsan V'ision Center', which is equipped with a high-tech ubiquitous media system for students to devote themselves to their studies, and to follow their dreams. The Young-san Vision Center is equipped with the best academic information center that has various IT systems and a Li-Service and mobile service system.
