Huainan Normal University, formerly Huainan Teachers College, was established in 1958, suspended after across the nation adjustment of advanced education in 1962 and restored in 1977. In 1999, Huainan Teachers College, Huainan Institute of Education and Huainan Normal School blended and in 2000 developed into Huainan Normal University. It is a consistent common full-time university of undergraduate studies. The university was conceded the privilege to grant bachelor’s degree in 2004 and acquired great prize in Assessment of Work Level of Undergraduate Teaching in Colleges and Universities by Ministry of Education in 2007. In 2009, it was affirmed as a common unit for postgraduate traiining and started its postgraduate studies mutually with Anhui University in 2010.
The university consists of 4 schools and 11 departments, i.e. Department of Mathematics and Computing Science, Department of the Chinese Language and Media, School of Marxism, School of Electrical & Information Engineering, School of Physical Education, Department of Life Science, Department of Computer and Information Engineering, Department of Politics and Law, Department of Foreign Languages, School of Business Administration, Department of Education Science, Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Department of Physics and Electronic Information, Department of Music and Department of Fine Art. It has 45 undergraduate specialties covering 9 fields such as Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Chinese Language and Literature, Politics and Administration, Chemistry, Applied Psychology, International Economics and Trade, Automation, Gardening, Physics, Musicology, Art and Design, and Advertising. Its library has a collection of more than 1.50 million books, and the estimation of equipments for educating and research sums RMB78 million yuan. It has various training bases in campus, for example, Language Training Center, Art Training Center, Microteaching Classroom, and Electrical Engineering Training Center and in addition more than 80 off-campus social educational training bases.
The university has a staff of 901, and 709 are full-time instructors, among which, 191 have been granted senior expert titles, and 527 have their specialist or master degrees. Likewise it has 13 foreign tutors, 3 long term and 10 short term. In addition, approximate number of students in university is 17174. The university appends extraordinary significance to education and scientific research. Presently it has 1 state-level feature specialty, 2 common level key controls, 1 common-place level key lab, 1 common-place level specialty in teaching reform, 1 common level model center for teaching of foundation courses, 2 commonplace level experimental centers for advancement of ability cultivation mode, 3 common level feature specialties, 4 common level model centers for practice teaching, 2 common level teaching groups and 10 commonplace level high-quality courses.
In the last five years, the university has got more than 2,000 research papers published in Open access with 176 papers in the journals incorporated into indexes SCI, EI and ISTP, and more than 80 published monographs, interpretations and educating materials. It has already undertaken 900 scientific research projects including the nationally-funded projects. At present, 9 state-level and 40 common-level research tasks are in process. The university has won 7 provincial research prizes of science and technology, 8 provincial research honors of humanities and sociologies and 6 national invention patents.
