Huzhou University established in 1958, Huzhou University is a higher education institution located in the large city of Huzhou (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), Zhejiang. Officially accredited/recognized by the Department of Education, Zhejiang Province, Huzhou University is a large (enrolment range: 10,000-14,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Huzhou University offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study. Huzhou University also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, as well as administrative services. Huzhou University is a full-time comprehensive university of regular undergraduate.
The university started to recruit undergraduates in 1994. In March 1999, Huzhou University was founded, by consolidating three former colleges and schools: Huzhou Normal Junior College, Huzhou Teacher’s School and Huzhou Teacher’s Training School. The later year in May, the former Huzhou Medical School merged into the newly founded university. Huzhou University passed the assessment of undergraduate teaching work organized by the Ministry of Education with evaluation of “good”in November 2005.The University has been entitled as the National Civilized Unit. It is qualified to recruit and cultivate both undergraduates and postgraduates and among the list of pilot universities to implement the national education training programs called “Excellent Doctors” and “Excellent Talents of Agriculture and Forestry”. Huzhou University is one of the key universities in the process of enrolment of regular institutions of higher learning in Zhejiang Province. Huzhou University is located in Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province. Huzhou has convenient transportation facilities because Shanghai is nearby in the east and Hangzhou in the south. It is situated on the south side of Taihu Lake with Suzhou and Wuxi on the north side of the lake. Huzhou is a progressive city with a sound economy and rich heritage.
The campus is surrounded by beautiful scenery with a graceful river. The University has comfortable dormitories, full modern classroom buildings and facilities. The campus lies on more than 111 hectares of the land with more than 380,000 square meters of teaching building. The University consists of ten Schools to meet the educational requirements of the students. These Schools include: School of Humanities, School of Law and Business, School of Foreign Languages, School of Sciences, School of Life Sciences, School of Medicine, School of Information Engineering, School of Arts, School of Physical Education, School of Education Science and Technology. These schools offer 42 Bachelor’s degree programs and Associate-degree programs covering literature, law, history, economy, administration, education, science, engineering and medicine. At present, the University has more than 1200 faculty members, among who over 400 are professors and associate professors. Currently the number of full-time students in attendance is 14,000 with more than 4,000 students receiving continuing education service. The International Center provides long-term and short-term courses covering Chinese language, traditional Chinese medicine and culture specially designed for the needs of foreign students. The Center has continually expanded the range of courses offered and developed standards of teaching that are suitable for the needs of foreign students. The Center has dedicated teachers who are specialists in their individual fields.
