At the Institute of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology (IBIS), we aim at translating large biological datasets emerging from high-throughput technologies into novel biomedical insights. We develop tools and databases for data processing, analysis, visualization, and integration to facilitate data interpretation in a systems context. In collaborative projects with our partners form biological, clinical, and epidemiological research, we apply our tools as well a conventional statistical and bioinformatic methods to data from small experiments involving a low number of patients or animals up to data from large studies involving thousands of subjects in human cohorts. The complexity of the data thereby ranges from low-dimensional, single time point clinical data to high-dimensional, time-series data measured on multiple omics platforms.
