The Centre for Research in Medical Entomology (CRME) is one of the 33 permanent institutes of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), an apex organization of the Indian government for conducting biomedical research of the country. At CRME, we use integrated approaches of field, laboratory and operational research to not only unravel the differential distribution of insects through vector surveillance, but also use modern biological technologies to develop novel strategies to control insects populations of medical importance. Our research areas span across a wide range of diseases – from the endemic and recurring VBDs like malaria, Japanese encephalitis and filariasis etc. to the emerging and re-emerging diseases like, chikungunya, dengue and zika etc. Over the next few years, CRME aims at evolving into a premier center for excellence in medical entomological research of the country through cutting edge research.
