Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology

Introduction:
Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), was situated at Thiruvananthapuram is a Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. IIST works autonomously under the Department of Space, Government of India. The possibility of such a foundation was mooted remembering the requirement for excellent manpower for the Indian Space Research Organization, one of worlds leading associations occupied with space research and space applications. The foundation is the first of its kind in the nation, to offer quality training at the undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and post-doctoral levels with special focus on space sciences, space innovation and space applications. IIST was formally initiated on 14 September 2007 by Dr. G. Madhavan Nair, the then Chairman, ISRO and was housed in the premises of Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, close from where ISRO fabricated and propelled its first rocket. Both the establishing fathers of the foundation, Dr G Madhavan Nair and Dr B.N. Suresh, the last being the main Director of IIST, assumed a vital part in the development of the foundation, encouraging its foundation and adding to its vision. Dr B.N. Suresh guided the organization from the origination of the thought to its acknowledgment in a changeless grounds close Thiruvananthapuram in 2010. Academic Programmes:
1. Undergraduate level:
• B.Tech (Avionics)
• B.Tech (Aerospace Engineering)
