The research institute for agriculture, fisheries and food (ILVO) researches the entire food chain, from primary food production to food processing and also the social and economic aspects of agriculture and fisheries. It is a self-governing research institute, part of the Government of Flandersââ¬â¢ Agriculture and Fisheries Policy Area in Belgium. ILVOââ¬â¢s mission is to perform and coordinate policy faithful scientific research and the associated open service with the goal of generating sustainable agriculture and fisheries from a financial, ecological and social perspective. The research institute for agriculture, fisheries research and its connected facilities span the range from important and practical crop and animal sciences to agricultural engineering; marine and fisheries research social science research, food science, and economics. Using research, ILVO strives to improve products and production methods, monitor and safeguard the quality and safety of end products, and to improve policy instruments with the aim of developing policy related to agriculture, rural areas, and fisheries. ILVO frequently notifies policymakers, the relevant industries, and the community about its research findings. The research activities of this multidisciplinary institute are systematized in different types of Units: ââ¬Â¢ Animal, ââ¬Â¢ Social Sciences, ââ¬Â¢ Plant, Technology ââ¬Â¢ Food ILVOââ¬â¢s mission consists of performing and coordinating policy supporting scientific research and the associated public service in view of a sustainable agriculture and fishery in an economic, ecological and social viewpoint. ILVO builds up the information essential for the development of yields and production methods, for safeguarding and monitoring the quality and security of end products, and for development of the policy instruments as a basis for the growth of the sector and the agricultural policy. Work at ILVO ââ¬Â¢ Screening and description of the compounds for a battery of different bioactivities relevant for different sectors such as anti-fouling, horticultural plant stimulant, food safety, nutritional and more ââ¬Â¢ Different processing techniques to maximally explore the potential of valorisable products for classical extractions, fermentation. ââ¬Â¢ Evaluation and valorisation of market potential of successful bioactive compounds A broad analytical capacity is present in the labs. Strong capability is available in the area of method expansion and justification for the discovery of organic molecules in different mediums such as animal and plants are accredited for several analyses. ILVO also devoted in an UHPLC high determination for mass spectrometer that allows the analysis of both identified and unidentified compounds, along with bioactive and healthy compounds, in various matrices. Finally, ILVO also is equipped with a ââ¬Ëtaste labââ¬â¢ that permits to achieve sensorial test with new ingredients and food products. In combination with versatile GC analysis furnished with an olfactometer, advanced food research is very well supported.
