Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences

Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences is also commonly called as IIIs, time-honored on December 30, 2010, held the inauguration ceremony on January 15, 2011. Prof. Andrew Chi-Chih Yao, Dean of the Institute, is a world’s leading computer scientist, winner of the A.M. Turing Award in 2000, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, foreign member of the US National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. The Institute named to become one of the primary research centers on interdisciplinary information sciences in the world and offers to habitat for the research and education of theoretical computer science and quantum information science in China. The growth of information science and technology has flagged the way for current civilization while computers, Internet and communication technologies which are necessary in our modern society, pervade all parts of human action. The further growth of information science in the 21st century depends on the exploration of new essentials and methods, the most effective method of which lies in the interaction between information science and other disciplines. IIIS at Tsinghua University led by Prof. Andrew Chi-Chih Yao is keen to supporting the innovative development of information science and cultivating the next generation of scientific talents with wide background knowledge in China. It is chiefly engaged in the interaction of information science and other disciplines (physics, mathematics, as well as life science and social sciences) in specific fields in the future while conducting effective research in emerging disciplines and development talents with unique appearances. III s is an umbrella institute hosting 4 research organizations • Center for Machine Intelligence (CMI) • Institute for Theoretical Computer Science (ITCS) • Laboratory for Secure Computing (LSC) • Center for Quantum Information (CQI) III s also hosts four international research centers • Tsinghua-Aarhus Center for the Theory of Interactive Computation (CTIC) • Tsinghua-Michigan Joint Center for Quantum Information (JCQI) • Tsinghua-MIT-CUHK Research Center for Theoretical Computer Science (CTCS) • Tsinghua-Waterloo Joint Center for Quantum Computing (JCQC)
