The Institute for Management of Information Systems (IMIS) was founded in the year 1978 and it is one of the leading association promoting excellence in the field of Information Systems Management through education and Professional association. Institute for Management Information System(IMIS) is previously known as Institute of Data Processing Management (IDPM). The headquarters of the institute is located in United Kingdom. The institute approximately consists of 12,000 members and the majority of the members are residents outside the UK. To understand the importance of Information Systems Management the institute had consistently played a prominent role. IMIS focuses specifically only on the practical application and management of Information Systems within the society while all the other professional associations concentrates primarily on the technical side of informating systems. The Institute for Mnagement of Information Systems makes great efforts towards the recognition of Information Systems Management as one of the key professions influencing the future of the world. The Institute for Management of Information Systems and the British Computer Society(BCS) have been regarded as the 2 main UK professional institutes for computer professionals. IMIS qualifications are divided mainly in to 3 levels. They are: Foundation Diploma- This course is mainly suitable for young people who wants to work with computers. All of the modules are designed within the structure. To introduce the student the basic elements of information systems practices each of the module is designed. Diploma- Completion of all the examinations will be awarded with a Diploma Certificate and Licentiate grade of professional membership. This equates to the National (ONC) certificate. Higher Diploma- It is the extention of the Diploma course to give students a comprehensive knowledge of the entire field of programming, operations, systems analysis and design and Computer management. The general standards of the institute equates to the Higher National Certificate/Diploma. After gaining the academics IMIS qualifications, students can become full members of the institute. Membership grades are also given to the students by IMIS based on what stage the candidate is in their career. In IMIS membership 2 affiliate grades and 4 professional grades are present which reflects an individual’s level of academic and experiential qualifications. The institute has its own publications like professional publications etc. There is also a special section of the IMIS journal which is devoted to student and college members only. The journal is currently distributed only online. The content of the editorial contains coverage and analysis of current people, events and topics of interest to senior managers who works in an information systems setting.
