Institute of Construction Sciences Eduardo Torroja

In 2007, the Ministry of Education granted a grant to the Institute of Construction Sciences "Eduardo Torroja" (IETcc) of the CSIC in order to organize and disseminate the funds of its Historical Archive, especially those generated from its creation until the end of the 60s. This aid was materialized through the Research Project HUM2007-65543 / HIST : The documentary fund generated by Eduardo Torroja in the IETcc as historical memory in the process of technology transfer in Construction Sciences . In this way, the IETcc joined the initiative launched in 1998 by the CSIC Library Network for the recovery, computerization and dissemination of the archives kept in the different CSIC offices, in order to facilitate access to the scientific community by the scientific community. contents of the personal files of the researchers, as well as the purely scientific ones, considered of great value for the history of Spanish science. The organization of the documentation of the Historical Archive of the IETcc through a database, allows the disclosure of the primary sources generated by the Institute's Management, and that are considered fundamental for the realization of serious and rigorous studies on the beginnings of the research in construction in Spain. Through the consultation and analysis of this documentation, the History of Contemporary Construction can be supported on a more solid basis to investigate the knowledge of the Spanish technological development in the field of construction through the initial activities of the IETcc seen from different perspectives : the means available to achieve its purposes, the research proposals, the practical and theoretical applications of the results obtained, etc. and that are related to the role played by the CSIC, and especially by the IETcc, in the process of construction and institutional development of the scientific and technological policy during the Franco regime. In this file there is a minority of personal documents of Prof. Torroja, most of them of an administrative nature, fruit of the daily work done in the Institute: lines of research, courses, conferences, publications, visits, daily life, operation administrative, etc. Prior to this initiative, thanks to the agreement signed between the Center for Studies and Experimentation of Public Works (CEDEX) and the Technical Office José Antonio Torroja, son of Eduardo Torroja, was established in 2002 at the headquarters of the Center for Historical Studies and Urban Planning (CEHOPU), the " Eduardo Torroja Archive" , in which the files of a large part of the projects carried out since the beginning of the activity of its Technical Office in 1927 and which is complementary to that of the IETcc are kept.
