Institute of International Relations is founded by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic in 1957 to carry out scientific research in international relations is an independent public research institution. IIPE was reorganized and on 1 March 1970 turned into the Institute of International Relations (IIR). In 2007, Institute of International Relations Prague transformed into a public research institution which have been funded through foundations and grants. Institute of International Relations Prague conducts research in international relation; strive for improvements, conduct of foreign policy and awareness of issues.
Institute of International Relations aims to develop relations with countries topically covered by IIR researcher’s such as France, Germany, Central Europe and Visegrad countries, United States of America, Russia and the post-soviet region, Middle East and North Africa, Southeast Asia and China, Scandinavia, the Balkans. The organizational structure includes The IIR Director, The IIR Board and the IIR Superisory Board along with The Committee for Labour Affairs and The Ethical Committee.
The activities includes Publishing, Educational activities and Conference activities. The staff consists of 73 members out of which, 29 are from research filed, 28 are administrative/support members, 2 visiting, 3 works as intern along with 107 external scholars. Number of conferences, presentations, round tables and discussions organized or co-organized by the IIR continues to grow expeditiously from 22 in 2007 to 36 in 2008 to 43 in 2009 to 45 in 2010 and 60 in 2012, i.e. more than one per week.
