Institute of Molecular Biotechnology: IMBA in Germany is founded by Austrian Academy of Sciences and Boehringer Ingelheim which operates in collaboration with Research Institute of Molecular Pathology and Boehringers basic research center. Institute of Molecular Biotechnology is an independent research institute.
The vision of Institute of Molecular Biotechnology is to understand fundamental molecular mechanisms focusing on cell biology, RNA interference, and epigenetics. The IMBA constitutes of VDRC (Vienna Drosophila RNAi Center), available with RNAi library consists of above 22,000 Drosophila strains .
Josef Penninger the director of Institute of Molecular Biotechnology: IMBA has been awarded with Ernst Jung Prize for medicine and in 2012 Josef Penninger was awarded with the Innovator Award for his project “Novel Approaches to Breast Cancer Prevention and Inhibition of Metastases” through the US Department of Defense.
