Instituto Universitário da Maia

About University: The Maia Higher Institute was established by the Maiêutica, Cooperativa de Ensino Superior, CRL and began its operation in 1990 at the Quinta da Gruta do Castêlo da Maia, provided by the City Council of Maia, with 117 students, who attended four courses of nature polytechnic. The autonomy was secured in 1995 with the acquisition of land and the construction of the first phase of the own facilities that welcomed about 2000 students. The second phase was built in 2003 and, at that time, the school population of ISMAI exceeded 4000 students, very similar to that of 2016. The Maia Digital Project involved an amount of eight million and three hundred and fifty euros and was concluded in 2006, with a 98.8% execution. The assessment report, presented on March 17, 2006, states that "Maia will be the first county in the country where almost all schools will benefit from an integrated school management system." In 2004/2005, the Master courses began, which reinforced the university nature of the Institution and, in the following year, the Technological Specialization Courses (CET) were created, which at that time was affirmed with significant success In Germany and Ireland, with a view to reducing school failure, reducing early school leaving and bringing young people into active life. With the Bologna process, implemented from 2006, a self-assessment culture, external and international, structured and professionalized, was developed at ISMAI, providing the evaluation carried out by the European Association of Universities (USA) in 2009 and 2010, with support Of the DGES. The Decree-Law no. 6/2014, dated January 14, [ 1 ] , which met the conditions established by the legislation in force and fully complies with the requirements set forth , was amended to recognize the public interest of Instituto Superior da Maia, Passing this to have the nature of University Institute and to adopt the denomination Instituto Universitário da Maia - ISMAI. The strategic issues have been reflecting and deepening ID & I alliances with the aim of strengthening scientific productivity, but also of enhancing the desirable creation of 3rd cycle education, Of the six research units, four are currently articulated with sectorial research R & D registered and accredited by the Foundation for Science and Technology / FCT where ISMAI presents itself as a participating institution - CIDESD; CETRAD; CPUP; CIAC -, the first two with very good and the remaining with Excellent and Good, respectively (evaluation 2014).
