To give the expert training of Graduation and Postgraduate of the most elevated level in Geosciences, with the goal of adding to the logical and mechanical advancement and to team up for the change of financial conditions.
These activities are done in an incorporated path with the doing of significant and quality logical research in for all intents and purposes all the central zones of Geosciences, other than studies concentrated on prospecting and mining of mineral products, hydrogeology, and geographical parts of regional occupation arranging and Protection. To give the Brazilian populace access to logical and innovative data in Geosciences.
In addition to the disciplines of basic training and general training, there are also professional subjects (specific to each license). The Institute of Geosciences is a teaching unit which includes courses in Geography, Cartographic Engineering and Geology. It consists of five departments of Geography, Geology, Mineralogy and Petrography, paleontology and stratigraphy and Geodesy. The unit is also responsible for the maintenance of three museums and the journal Research in Earth Sciences, in addition to postgraduate and research.
Research:
The Scientific Initiation is a program that aims to attend students of the undergraduate courses, putting them in contact with groups / lines of research. It seeks to provide the student with the learning of scientific techniques and methods derived from the conditions created by direct contact with scientific research. The student can develop the activities of the Scientific Initiation using the scholarships offered by the traditional agencies of foment to the research like FAPESP, CNPq, or to do his research without granting to him scholarship and / or aid.
The CNPq fellows should present the results of their research at the International Symposium of Scientific Initiation of USP (SIICUSP).
NAP GEO-SEDEX promotes applied research (hydrocarbons and water) and innovation in sedimentary basins, on the lithospheric scale, via the "knowledge network" in Geology, Geophysics and Oceanography.
Geo Hereditas promote and promote research, debate and extension activities in the areas of Geotourism, Geo conservation and Environmental Education in various units of USP, associated institutions and other sectors of society.
