Instituto de Química Física "Rocasolano"

The Institute of Physical Chemistry Rocasolano (situated in the call Rockefeller Building in Madrid ) is a foundation ward of the Superior Council of Scientific Investigations . It was made on 1 of March of 1946 on account of a declaration building up the 5 lines of research: electrochemistry, physical science of modern procedures, physical science unadulterated, spectrochemical and physical science of organic procedures. After the production of the Higher Council of Scientific Research (CSIC) vanishes the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Board of Studies Extension, unfurling in two Institutes: "Alonso de Santa Cruz" (material science) and "Alonso Barba". In 1946 they blend again in the Rocasolano Institute. The first name was that of Antonio de Gregorio Rocasolano , who for handy reasons soon shortened to its present frame. At the leader of the lines of electrochemistry and modern material science was put to Professor Rius , electrochemistry relied on upon Doctor Juan Manuel López Azcona , from the Alonso Institute of Santa Cruz and the physical science of natural procedures was told Professor Ramón Portillo . The name of Rockefeller Institute originates from the financing of the working in which the foundation was made. The International Educational Board of the Rockefeller Foundation teamed up to make a building that harbored the National Institute of Physics and Chemistry which was introduced on 6 of February of 1932 . At present, the course of the inside is responsible for Doctor Juan de la Figuera Bayón. There are two appointee chiefs: Dr. Douglas Laurents and Dr. Juan Zenón Dávalos Prado. The administration is accountable for Antonio Rubinos Perez. Departments Atmospheric chemistry and climate Biological physical chemistry Crystallography and structural biology Low dimensional systems, surfaces and condensed matter The Department is equipped with the state of the art technologies to develop our research. Our molecular biology laboratory is perfectly set up and equipped with all the modern technologies to produce recombinant proteins at milligram scale. The diffraction laboratory includes a new rotating anode generator equipped with two area detectors and a micro source generator for testing crystals. We also provide X-ray facilities for the crystallographic community through the RedLab network, which coordinates all the technological platforms of the Madrid Regional Government. In addition, we have established an automated crystallization platform which offers the newest and fastest tools for the screening of crystallization conditions using a minimum amount of protein sample. The platform includes two crystallization robots and a “crystal farm” for storage and analysis of the experiments. All these facilities are available for all CSIC researchers and for those coming from other institutions.
