The first annual course of the Zurich Training College for Teachers of Special Needs (HPS) was inaugurated on 8 April 1924 with a total of eight students and eight teachers. Heinrich Hanselmann was the Colleges first rector. Heinrich Hanselmann served as the rector of the HPS and held the chair of the University of Zurich from 1923 to 1940. Interkantonale Hochschule fur Heilpädagogik Zürich was established in 1924 and organised as Heilpädagogisches Seminar, in 2001 Intercantonal School of Special Education was established. The Rector Prof. Dr. Barbara Fäh and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Karin Bernath were the first to start this organistion. One of the founding fathers of the association was Johannes Hepp (1879-1963), director of the cantonal institution for the blind and the deaf in Zurich Wollishofen.Total Headcount was approximately 160 employees which supports 13 CH-cantons and the Principality of Liechtenstein. President of the University Council is Dr. Sebastian Brändli, head of university of the Canton Zurich. The courses offered are Bachelor s and Masters degree programs, CAS and MAS, continuing education, research and development as well as services. The main services fo which Therapy teaching practice is the key services which offers HfHs funding center and, in the context of speech therapy and psychomotor therapy, tests new theoretical concepts, which are taught and discussed within the framework of the training.Currently there are 24 ongoing research projects which focuses mainly on 5 areas at different stages of life as well as systemic-institutional issues and the professionalization of the special educational and vocational field together with the help of 18 employees.
