Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University was founded as a foundation university by the Knowledge Dissemination Foundation bound with the Higher Education Law of 2547. In location where Mehmet Âkif was both a student and a teacher, Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University provides education now. Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University is a Turkish higher education institution which was named after Sabahattin Zaim and established in 2010 by Ä°lim Yayma VakfÄ± (Foundation for Popularization of Science). Mehmet Âkif Ersoy Agriculture Museum is situated in the campus and is a reminder of the great poet Mehmet Âkif Ersoy. The main building was located in Eyüp, whereas campus was located at HalkalÄ±, Küçükçekmece. Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University takes “quality” as fundamental to its policies. Before University was founded, this historical campus was used as HalkalÄ± Agricultural Production Administration, Agricultural Development and Service Training Directorate. One of the first graduates was Turkey’s National poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy, and the campus continued giving education for different educational institutions up until 2005. The construction works for Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University's HalkalÄ± Central Campus have been ongoing since 2010 along with renovation works of the old buildings.

It has about 22 departments having 8 faculties; Faculty of business and management sciences, Faculty of education, Faculty of engineering and natural sciences, Faculty of health sciences, Faculty of humanities and social sciences, Faculty of Islamic sciences, Faculty of law. It has two institutes, Institute of science and technology and Institute of social sciences providing masters education and doctorate along with vocational courses in School of Foreign Languages and School of Physical Education and Sports. It also has a language school.
