Jack Bell Research Centre

From humble beginnings, Jack Bell rose to become a very successful innovator and businessman in the peat moss and cranberry industries. The Jack Bell Foundation was founded in 1987 initially delivering Dying with Dignity Advocacy and the Living Will. Under the direction of Jack Bell and Board of Directors, The Foundation has worked on many other public interest projects including launching Canadas first and only large-scale organized public ride-sharing program in 1992 which currently operates a fleet of 60 vehicles, plus facilitates private ride-sharing using an innovative internet web application. Jack Bell passed away February 1st, 2006. He is best known and loved for his philanthropic contributions to the Jack Bell Research Centre and Health Science Centre at Vancouver General Hospital, the University of British Columbias Jack Bell School of Social Work and the First Nations Centre for Learning, Friends of Schizophrenia Society, the Salvation Army, the Downtown East Side Residents Society, and the Jack Bell Foundation. His honours include Freeman of the City of Vancouver; an Honorary Doctorate from the University of British Columbia; The Golden Jubilee Medal; The Order of British Columbia; and, The Order of Canada
