The State Government of Andhra Pradesh through A.P. Govt. Act No.30 of 2008 has separated the erstwhile JNTU into four different Universities viz., JNT University Anantapur, JNT University Kakinada, JNT University Hyderabad and JNA&FA University Hyderabad. JNT University Anantapur started functioning from the 155 acre campus of one of its Constituent College at Anantapur, since August 2008. As a budding University it is committed to develop and nurture a Technical Education System in the four districts of Rayalaseema viz., Anantapur, Chittoor, YSR, Kurnool districts and SPSR Nellore district which would produce skilled man power of high quality comparable to the best in the world and in adequate numbers to meet the complex technological needs of the economy. JNTUA, by virtue of the quality of its academic programmes, has consistently been ranked amongst the leading technical Universities in the country. The University is working dedicatedly towards the vision of producing quality technical graduates, competent teachers, scientists and leaders in the academics, research, industry and administration under the guidance and dynamic leadership of its Chairman.
The University has its obligation to the society and the country, to remain in forefront to keep up to the Science and Technological developments in the world. Especially, in disseminating quality knowledge to prepare the youth to cope up with the needs of the industry and society at large. UG and PG Boards of Studies of all faculties have been constituted separately involving as many as 200 experts from Premier institutions, Industry, Constituent and affiliated colleges of JNTU Anantapur with an objective of revising and updating the syllabus of all existing UG, PG courses and Pre-Ph.D, as well as framing curriculum for the new courses and programmes. It offers wide numbers of under graduate and post graduate programs in various branches.
Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University offers total sixteen under graduate programs with different branches like Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics & Control Engineering, Electronics & Computer Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science & Systems Engineering, Chemical Engineering, B. Pharmacy, Bio-Technology and Pharm. D. Post-Graduation programs with different 69 specialization categories are being offered by the university. There are four constituent colleges under this university. They are JNTUA College of Engineering, Ananthapuramu, JNTUA College of Engineering, Pulivendula, JNTUA College of Engineering, Kalikiri, JNTUA-Oil Technological and Pharmaceutical Research Institute (OTPRI), Ananthapuramu.
Some famous and notable alumni of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Anantapur are G. Satheesh Reddy, B.Tech in ECE, Indian Missile Scientist, Scientific Adviser to Raksha Mantri and Director General, Missiles and Strategic Systems (DG-MSS). He was former Director, Research Centre Imarat and another is S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, Indian film playback singer, actor, music director, voice actor and film producer. The revised curriculum has stressed upon the necessary skills needed for the technical and overall improvement of the knowledge base of the students to make them fit for the fast changing needs of the global employment and industrial scenario.
