Established in 1958, Jishou University is a higher education institution located in the small city of Jishou, Hunan. Officially accredited/recognized by the Department of Education, Hunan Province, Jishou University (JSU) is a coeducational higher education institution. Jishou University (JSU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study. JSU also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, as well as administrative services.
There are 25 schools and colleges running in Jishou University, namely, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, School of Tourism, School of Biological Resources and Environmental Science, School of Business, School of Mathematics and Computer Science, School of Physical Education, School of Foreign Languages, School of Physical Science and Information Engineering, School of Literature and Journalism, School of Medical, School of Music and Dance, School of Law, School of Political Science and Public Administration, School of History and Culture, School of Art, School of Information Management and Engineering, School of Town Planning and Urban Planning, School of International Exchange, School of Continuing Education, School of Marxism, School of Public Languages, School of Preceptors, School of Computer General Course, School of Modern Educational Technology, Zhangjiajie College.
In 2013, the university has 2 campuses; a combined student body of 27,000 students; 2,000 faculty members and 200 staff members. The university offers 71 specialization courses for undergraduate students and 2 specialization courses for second bachelor’s degree students. At present, the university has 15 provincial engineering research centers and 4 provincial key laboratories. Total collection of Jishou University’s library is more than 2.3 million items.
