Kajaani University of Applied Sciences is a proactive, genuinely international university with a strong regional and national profile. An international learning and development community consisting of approximately 2000 students and 230 experts operates in its own compact campus area located in Kajaani’s impressive natural surroundings. The Kajaani UAS quality control policy is that all staff and students are committed to the continual improvement of the university’s operations. The policy ensures and enables excellence to be the main goal of all operations. All quality control operations are based on the vision, values, strategic choices and agreed procedures that are used to implement strategy within different processes. Academic Campus:
KAMK has concentrated on state-of-the-art equipment and study methods, as the campus undergoes a process of constant renewal and development. For example you can opt to complete part of your studies as E-courses (virtual learning). The KAMK Library, located on campus in the Information Centre, is at your disposal. Its collection of 32 000 volumes is certain to provide you with material for your studies, research and development and business requirements. The library also offers digital materials and has a versatile collection of periodicals. The campus has fast network connections and there are 50 customer computers available for public use in the library. The Kajaani University of Applied Sciences Student Union KAMO organises evening gatherings and parties, winter events and excursions. KAMO also runs kiosk, book selling and photocopying services at student prices on campus. You may also find that your own student flat, offered by Kajaanin Pietari is also located on campus.
Statistics:
The extent of studies in a university of applied sciences is 210 - 240 credits (ECTS), which means 3,5 – 4 years of studies. An essential part of studies is practical training worth 30 credits (ECTS), designed to provide students with the opportunity to put theory into practice. Internationality is emphasized in all education offered at Kajaani University of Applied Sciences. It is possible to complete part of the studies and the practical training also abroad using the worldwide network of partners. Kajaani UAS also offer double degree programmes, giving the students an opportunity to finish their studies with two bachelors degrees. The universities of applied sciences together with representatives from working life have determined the skills, i.e. competences that a university of applied sciences graduate is expected to have.Competences are comprehensive areas of knowledge and skill that describe the graduate’s level of qualification, achievement potential and their ability to accomplish the work associated with their selected profession. Competences are divided into degree-programme specific (professional) and generic competences. Generic competences are common to the degree programmes offered by all fields; however their special features and significance may vary in different professions and professional tasks. The generic competences create the foundations for working as a professional, cooperating and the ability to develop one’s own expertise
Research:
Kajaani University of Applied Sciences research, development and innovation work supports enterprises and business life locally, nationally and, on its field of focus, also internationally. In R&D, Kajaani UAS focuses on the needs of the labor markets through higher education development projects. Most of the projects are collaborative undertakings with private companies, education institutions, governmental and non-governmental organizations and other bodies. KUAS R&D-budget exceeds 10 million euros per year covering 50 to 100 person years.CEMIS is a joint contract based research and development center specializing in measurement and information system formed by KUAS, two universities (Oulu and Jyväskylä) and two sector research institutes (MIKES, VTT). CEMIS’ main objective is to strengthen Kainuu’s position as a nationally and internationally significant measurement and information systems center of expertise.
