Kao Yuan University, formerly known as the Private Kao Yuan Junior College of Technology (founded in 1986), is the first E-generation academy located in the Kaohsiung Science Park, Taiwan. Officially approved by the Ministry of Education (referred to as MOE hereafter), the Kao Yuan Junior College of Technology began recruiting students in 1989 and Professor Liaw, Feng-Jeng was its first president. Our vision is based on the educational philosophy, we expect Kao Yuan University to become an outstand Technological University with emphasis on science and technology and humanities, integration of academic and industry, approach industrial demands, and connection to industries seamlessly. To establish featured Education on digital information, integration of Electro-Optical Science, Electrical Engineering, and Electronic Engineering, Greenergy Techniques, Invention of Fasteners, Business Administration, Humanities Cultivation, and Certification obtained.
At present, there are four colleges, including: the College of Mechatronic Engineering, the College of Engineering; the College of Business and Management; the College of Informatics.
There are also eight graduate schools, including: Operation and Management; Chemical and Biochemical Engineering; Civil Engineering; Architecture; Information Technology and Applications; Electronic Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Mechanical and Automation Engineering.
There are also fifteen departments, including: Electronic Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Mechanical and Automation Engineering; Electro-Optical Science and Engineering; Civil Engineering; Chemical and Biochemical Engineering; Architecture; Business Administration; International Business; Marketing and Distribution Management; Information Management; Information Communication; Information Technology and Application; Applied Foreign Languages; Greenery Science & Technology.
Five diploma programs are offered, namely: RC Fastener Industrial Technology (Graduate School); Department of Fragrance Cosmetics Science and Health Care; Green Environment TRC Diploma Program; Culture Industry and digital integrated Diploma Program, Tourism & Leisure Management, Department of Mechanical & Automation Engineering - Advanced Vehicle Division (rename), and Department of Architecture--Interior design Division (rename) approved by MOE.
Currently, the number of students enrolled at Kao Yuan University is in the region of 8,500.
Kao Yuan University is located between Kangshan and Lujhu. On the east side of intercity highway lies Campus One, which covers 11 hectares, while on the west side is Campus Two, which has 14.2 hectares. The library collection contains 170,000 volumes of books, 1,000 periodicals, 20,000 video-audio sets, and over 20 CD and DVD databases. Kao Yuan offers eleven undergraduate programs and seven graduate programs along with extended programs, designed in day school, evening school and weekend school.
Faculty of Kao Yuan University is comprised of 310 full-time teachers, among whom 145 faculty members are assistant professors or above. Currently Kao Yuan has an enrolment of 6,525 students in its day school, 2,666 students for night school, and 1,184 students in its weekend school.
Kao Yuan University lays great emphasis on research and has and significant breakthroughs in the fields of fundamental theory and applied technology research. We currently have the Research and Development Center of Green Engineering, the Disaster Prevention Center. We plan to set up a Research Center for Virtual 3D Interactivity, a Research Center for Mechelectrical optical testing, a Research Center for Telecommunications Technology, a Business Research Center. Besides, there are, in total, 140 laboratories, 97 research rooms, 10 multimedia classrooms, along with 158 administrative staff members with qualify expertise and capable of visionary, applied issues of studies.
