Karunya University (declared under section 3 of the UGC Act,1956 vide Notification No. 9-3-2000-U3 dt. 26.6.2004 of the Govt. of India) was founded in 1986 with the noble vision to raise professionals of high academic calibre and unblemished character,nurtured with a strong motivation and commitment to care for the underprivileged. Located about an hours drive from Coimbatore city in a picturesque 700-acre campus, this "A" grade institution (by NAAC) has produced thousands of outstanding professionals in the past 20 years who are working in reputed organizations and holding responsible positions. Thus, Karunya has emerged as a centre of excellence in engineering studies in India and is widely preferred by students from all backgrounds. From an affiliated college in 1986, Karunya has risen to the level of a University (declared under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956) vide Notification No.9-3-2000-U3 dated 23.6.2004 of the Govt. of India). Today, more than 6300 students (both boys and girls) study in Karunya,hailing from various parts of the country and abroad. The University recognizes the need for a friendly residential atmosphere for the students and hence offers excellent accomodation facilities for each one of them in a socially secure, morally strong and academically supportive environment. In commemoration of 23 years of its service, Karunya University has planned to dedicate 2000 hostel rooms in the names of its precious donors.
