About King Fahd University for Petroleum and Minerals
King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) is a leading educational organization for science and technology. Since that time, the University enrollment has grown to more than 10000 students. The process of reaching the desired outcomes involved extensive iterative thinking. The process started with a careful situational analysis taking into account the previous efforts in the first KFUPM Strategic plan, relevant data about the University, input from the main stakeholders, results from focus group meetings and workshops, and comparison with several strategic plans of other international and regional institutions. As a result, the Steering Committee identified the key strategic issues and the main ingredients for the vision and mission statements. After analyzing the current situation and assessing current KFUPM ambitions, the strategic goals and strategies related to them were formulated. This process involved extensive re-evaluation and genuine feedback from the University Administration, the Executive Committee for the strategic plan, the International Advisory Board (IAB), and KFUPM stakeholders.
Teaching and Research are the main two core functions of KFUPM. The vision is ambitiously drafted to reflect the aspired outcomes of both. Global Competitiveness of graduates requires that they are prepared with high knowledge, sharp skills, real ethics and instilled leadership. Carrying cutting-edge research in all its fields will enable KFUPM to make scholarly impact and contribute to national needs. In addition, as KFUPM is focusing in its research and technology development on energy and its related fields, it aims to achieve leadership in this challenging area. In all of these ambitious stands, KFUPM strives to be a preeminent institution worldwide.
Colleges, Departments and Interdisciplinary Programs
All of KFUPMs six colleges offer undergraduate and graduate programs: Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Computer Sciences and Engineering, Industrial Management and Environmental Design.
The KFUPM undergraduate degree program is designed to achieve balance between depth of knowledge acquired through specialization and breadth of knowledge gained through exploration.
Executive, Professional & Continuing Education
KFUPM offers valuable opportunities for lifelong learning. Continuing Studies schedules a broad range of courses, seminars and workshops for people in the Eastern Province. The KFUPM English Language Center provides English-learning courses. The Deanship of Educational Services has diploma programs for undergraduate providing unique access to KFUPMs outstanding faculty and attracting talented students from around the world.
The KFUPM University Libraries contain more than 1 million volumes and maintain an online catalog called Horizon.
KFUPM welcomes outstanding and talented prospective graduate students from around the nation and the world to apply for Graduate Studies. Besides national students, KFUPM currently has international graduate students from 28 different nationalities. This adds to the richness & diversity of the academic and research environment at KFUPM.
Teaching & Learning
King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) believes that every individual at KFUPM has a right to experience personal growth and development through enriched academic development opportunities. The purpose for establishing the Teaching & Learning Centre (TLC) in the year 2003, as one of the centers of the Deanship of Academic Development, is to provide such experience by promoting excellence in teaching at all ranks and excellence in student learning inside and outside the classroom. The TLC activities include workshops, mini-courses, seminars, consulting services and resources to the faculty and graduate teaching assistants to enhance teaching and learning. The TLC also administers several special programs including academic development grants.
Over 5,000 undergraduate students in 15 departments and programs are currently pursuing baccalaureate degrees at KFUPM.
KFUPM currently offers 32 Master Programs and 11 Doctorate Programs in 27 different disciplines.
The Deanship of Graduate studies awards Master of Science (M.S.) degrees in 24 major fields, namely: Architectural, Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Computer Networks, Electrical, Mechanical, Petroleum, Telecommunication, and Systems Engineering, as well as in Chemistry, Computer Science, City & Regional Planning, Construction Engineering & Management, Geology, Geophysics, Mathematics, Physics, and Medical Physics. Center of Research Excellence in Petroleum Refining and Petrochemicals (CoRE-PRP)
The Center of Research Excellence in Petroleum Refining and Petrochemicals (CoRE-PRP) was established by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) on Muharram 15, 1428 (February 4, 2007) at the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM, the host unit), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. Since its establishment, MoHE primarily finances this center.
Excellence in catalysis research
Develop highly focused olefin, aromatic, and polyolefin catalysis research programs that will generate novel concepts and intellectual properties, produce higher value-added and improved products, and reduce production costs.
Research training and professional career
Offer high quality undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate research training in the above catalysis research programs to provide highly skilled manpower for the concerned Saudi industries.
Develop/enhance world-class relevant catalysis research laboratories and facilities; and facilitate access and optimum usage.
Recruit and retain highly qualified researchers and research support staff in areas of its research focus.
National and International Linkages
Promote cooperative approaches to research and improve the use of research outcomes by strengthening links with the Saudi and international universities and research organizations having excellence in the Center’s research theme.
Increase awareness, understanding, and support among the end-user community of the outcomes and benefits of the CoRE-PRP research.
