The Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University stands for imparting education leading to graduate and post graduate degrees and research degrees viz. M.Phil. and Ph. D. in Sanskrit and research degrees only in Ancient Studies . At the same time, with the provision of the Act, the university is going to introduce academic programmes in Humanities, Social Sciences as well as other disciplines as per societal requirements. The University is set up with a notification by the Govt. of Assam dated 24th May, 2011,of the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University Act, 2011, which has received assent of the Honble Governor of Assam on 16th March ,2011.The preamble of the Act states that by this Act , the Govt. of Assam goes " to establish and constitute a teaching, affiliating , research and residential University at Nalbari ," the Headquarters of the district of Nalbari , Assam. Kumar Bhaskar Varma, a great monarch of Assam (7th century A.D) was a patron of Sanskrit studies and during his rule Vedic culture and Sanskritic knowledge came to flourish in Assam. The campus of the University is developed at Namati Village of Batahgila Mouza under Nalbari Revenue Circle of the district of Nalbari, Assam - 781337, India. It has an area of 100 bighas of land allotted by the Govt. of Assam. It is easily accessible by public and private transport facilities. The Univeristy is 3.3 KM from the 31 National Highway and 4.5 KM from Nalbari Town. The nearest railway station is Nalbari Railway Station under N.F. railway and nearest airport is Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati which is at a distance of 75 KM. The University has a good collection of text and reference book and journals. The Students can borrow books for a specified period after depositing of necessary caution money. The university provides courses on Tantric and Shakti cult, Buddhist philosophy, nature/environment worship, Gandhian studies, etc. The University has adopted a Kalidasean line meaning "may the sayings of the wise be glorified", as its motto. Knowledge is an eternal entity and dissemination of knowledge is what a university stands for. The motto is inscribed on a wrapped sheet of paper at the midle of the emblem. The quill used as writing pen even till a few decades ago and the two buring earthen lights indicate the process of learning, which is as pure and bright as the sun, inscribed at the centre. The five concentric circles be taken to suggest that knowledge/ learning can had of with the five organs, both sensory as well as congitive. Moreover the shade of saffron colour spreading towards the circumference is an indication that knowledge is meant for expansion with no boundary at all, the fact applicable in regard to the purpose of a University. The Chancellor of the university is Srijut Sarbananda Sonowal Honourable Chief Minister, Assam and the Vice chancellor of university is Prof. Dr. Dipak Kumar Sharma, Former Professor of Sanskrit and Director, College Development Council, Gauhati University.
