Kutztown University was founded in 1866 as Keystone Normal School. The school became Kutztown State Teachers College in 1928, Kutztown State College in 1960 and achieved university status in 1983. Kutztown University is a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The Board of Governors oversees the State System which includes Pennsylvanias 14 public universities. University includes 9,804 students from more than 20 states and nations and offers courses in Business, Education, Liberal Arts and Sciences and Visual and Performing Arts. In addition, the university reaches out to the community with credit and non-credit Lifelong Learning courses. Kutztown Universitys mission is to provide a high quality education at the undergraduate and graduate levels in order to prepare students to meet lifelong intellectual, ethical, social, and career challenges.
