Its founding name was Dong-U College. This school aimed to develop students to become holistic, well-rounded, creative, humanistic, faithful, and practical professionals. It was organized as a professionalized two-year college teaching Business Administration, Accounting, Public Administration, Tourism, Food and Nourishment, and Early Childhood Education to help the development of the community. Dong-U College had successfully developed more practical courses such as Computer Science, Production Management, and Dental Technology. In 1997, Kyungdong University was founded with global and international extension goals. More community based and globalized professionals were produced. Kyungdong has been trying to serve the communitys educational needs such as Regional Innovation System (RIS), Commerce, Industry & Energy, Deep Ocean Water, Leisure & Resort, and Social Welfare. KDU offers various bachelor degrees approved by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development. Also, it has made agreements for collaboration with prominent Universities from many different parts of the world. KDU was confirmed as an Excellent University in the General Evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Education in 2001. Furthermore, KDU was chosen as an Excellent University in the Evaluation of Liberal Education area and emerged as 6th place among all universities across the country. In 1998, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism awarded the University a license to become an educational agency to train and certify Overseas Travel Escorts (OTE) for two (2) consecutive years (2002 and 2003). Also, KDU was chosen by the Ministry of Information and Communication as an Excellent University in the field of IT Studies. Moreover, in 2003, KDU was selected both as local University for Intensive Nurturing and as being Excellent in Specializing Several Fields of Study. In 2003, KDU made a record of 98.6% employment rate of their graduates. It marked as the highest among all 4-year universities nationwide. Over the past four consecutive years KDU has accomplished more than 95% of employment rate. An active partner in the Industry-Educational Marriage Program in collaboration with more than 500 companies including domestic industries with operational offices in China. KDU has an idealistic educational setting blessed with beautiful natural surroundings. Seorak Mountain is the first on the list of Koreas famous tourist attractions. It is surrounded by beautiful lakes, pine forests, and beaches that contribute to the harmony and balance in making KDU as one of the most beautiful campuses in Korea. KDU offers Korean language courses at different levels to foreign students. It provides various opportunities to experience unique Korean culture and tradition. The instructors of the programs are the writers of the Korean Proficiency examinations. The Council of Supervisors for University Dormitories has chosen KDUââ¬â¢s dormitories as one of the best models for its modern facilities. The two contemporary buildings have a capacity of 1,550 occupants. It allows students to enjoy a comfortable life until graduation with reasonable expenses of accommodation.
