Lanzhou Jiaotong University also known as Lanzhou Railway University was established in 1958. Tangshan Railway Institute (the present Southwest Jiaotong University) and Beijing Railway Institute (the present Beijing Jiaotong University) transferred departments and sections to this university. The main aim of the university is to educate talented persons to become professionals in their respective areas of interest. Lanzhou Jiaotong University has 3 campuses and with departments like Civil Engineering, Automatization & Electric Engineering, Electronics & Information Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Environmental & Municipal Engineering, Economics & Management, Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Foreign Languages, Mathematics, Physics & Software Engineering, Architecture & Urban Planning, Art and Design, Continuing Education, International Joint Education. The affiliated schools are The School of Civil Engineering, The School of Automatization & Electric Engineering, The School of International Joint Education, The School of Architecture & Urban Planning, The School of Chemical & Biological Engineering, The School of Environmental & Municipal Engineering, etc. The university is with 215 international students and is running 218 programs currently. Currently the university is with current enrollment total over 30,000 students, including over 18000 full-time undergraduate students, over 2,500 postgraduates and Ph.D. candidates and over 12,000 participants in adult education courses. The university possesses 53 laboratories and research centers, 5 key provincial and ministerial laboratories, one national experimental teaching demonstration center, and 1 national University Science and Technology. Wang Ping is the chairman of the university and Yang Zijiang is the current president.
