Leeds Metropolitan University

Leeds Metropolitan University was founded in 1824 in Leeds but gained University status in 1992. The University was started in 1824 as the mechanical institute. Leeds Polytechnic was formed in 1970 under Leeds Local Education and it became an independent higher education corporation in 1989. The University won the award for "outstanding contribution to the local community" by The Times Higher Education Supplement in 2006 and ranked number one in UK for environment friendly institute in 2007. The vision of the University is to be recognised worldwide for student success, innovation and enterprise, universal reach and strong indigenous impact.
