Lille1 University is a State University, founded in 1562 by the Spanish. It became French in 1667. Lille 1 is one of the leading science universities in France, located on a dedicated main campus in Villeneuve dAscq. Statistics: It is with 20,000 full-time students plus 14,500 students in continuing education (2004). 1,310 permanent faculty members plus 1,200 staff and around 140 CNRS researchers work there in the different University Lille 1 institutes and 43 research labs. University Lille 1 faculties and doctoral college are UFR biology ("SN" buildings as in "sciences naturelles", natural sciences) Research: UFR chemistry, UFR geography, UFR mathematics, UFR physics, UFR economy and social sciences UFR earth sciences, UFR electronics, Electrotechnics, Control and computer sciences. Through the training and mobility of young researchers: 850 international study exchanges and 480 internships abroad a year, 200 staff mobilities, 24 international programs (all levels), 10 institutional networks with all continents, and numerous European Networks in each discipline.
