MPI-MIS-Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences

The International Max Planck Research School Mathematics in the Sciences (IMPRS MiS), supported by the Research Academy Leipzig is a joint activity of three departments - Institute of Mathematics, Institute of Computer Science and Institute of Physics and Earth Science - of the University of Leipzig, and the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences. It leads interested graduate students towards research problems in physical and life sciences. This involves a broad range of mathematical fields, including geometry, partial differential equations and functional analysis, stochastics, and discrete mathematics. Specific subject areas are: Partial Differential Equations, Calculus of Variations and Material Sciences Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing Riemannian and Symplectic Geometry and Hamiltonian Systems Quantum Field Theory, Particle Physics Algebra Geometric and Functional Analytic Methods in Mathematical Physics Stochastic Processes, Many Particle Systems Complex Systems in Evolutionary Processes and Neurobiology Founded in 2005, the IMPRS MiS has grown to a prestigious graduate school in mathematical sciences. Up to now, more than 60 students have finished their PhD studies successfully, many of them stayed in science and entered postdoc positions at prestigious places all over the world, some of them have already been promoted to professors. Learn more about our Alumni. The scientific program offered by the IMPRS MiS is focused on the interdisciplinary research and education of the students.
