1. About the university
Meenakshi University was created by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and received approval of the University Grants Commission in accordance with the University Grants Commission Act of 1956. University mainly focuses on medical researches, however there are institution for engineering management and arts and sciences also are affiliated with it.
2. About academics/campuses/affiliated colleges
The university awards the following undergraduate degrees: Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Bachelor of Science (Nursing), and Bachelor of Physiotherapy and Bachelor of Engineerig. It awards the following postgraduate degrees: Master of Medical Education, Master of Science, Master of Dental Surgery, Master of Science (Nursing), Master of Physiotherapy and Bachelor in Engineering. It also offers specialty courses leading to a doctorate in medicine or masters in chirurgical, as well as PhD programs. They have dentistry courses in all 9 specialties for bachelor and master both. They also run a 5 years integrated masters’ program.

4. Research from the university
Authors from Meenakshi University published recently a work entitled “Androgen Excess and Genetic Instabilities in Anovulatory Infertility” where they concluded primarily that “Anovulation is the failure of the ovaries to release ova over a period of time generally exceeding threemonths.Anovulation is one of the major causes of infertility. Among the causes of infertility, 20-25% accounts for anovulation. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the androgen excess and genetic instabilities in anovulatoryinfertility by investigating the various anthropometric and clinical aspects of the subjects.Twenty foursubjects with anovulatory infertility and 19 healthy womenwithout any chronic illness were involved in this study. Reproductive hormones namely leutinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) were estimated in each subjects after obtaining their informed consent. Cytokinesis-block micronuclei (CBMN) assay was also carried out in the lymphocytes of the subjects to assess the somatic DNA damage. The study demonstrated that the micronuclei frequency significantly elevated in the study subjects than control subjects. Anovulatory women with various risk factors such as history of chronic illness,family history of cancer, increased duration of married life, endometriosis, hypercholesterolemia etc. can lead toincreased genetic instabilities and the severity of infertility.Lifestyle management should be used as the primarytherapy for the treatment of metabolic complications and improvementin ovulatory function and pregnancy.
