National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology

The (NIFFT) National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology is a fully residential Government of India co-educational institute. It is located at Hatia and was established in 1966 by the Government of India. Institute is in collaboration with UNDP - UNESCO as it provides the qualified engineers and specialists for running the industries. It is an autonomous and Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTI) institute under Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. A main objective of the institute is to meet the present need of the industries by introducing the departments like Manufacturing Engineering (ME) and Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (MME). NIFFT also provides consultancy, documentation and information retrieval services in manufacturing engineering, industrial metallurgy and in Foundry & Forge Sectors. Foundry Technology, Applied Science and Humanities, Forge Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Metallurgy, Materials Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering are the different departments, centres and facilities in the National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology. The workshops have facilities for Heat Treatment, Casting, Forging, Pattern and Die Manufacture. The offered courses and programmes involved in the institute are Advanced Diploma, Bachelor of Technology, Master of Technology and Doctor of philosophy. NIFFT is registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act of 1860.The management of the institute is vested with Board of Governors with chairman at its apex and members representing Govt. of India (Ministry of HRD & Industry), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Private and public enterprises, technical and R&D Institutions, etc. The Institute received technical and financial assistance during its formative period in the form of UNESCO fellowships, experts’ services and laboratory equipment. The cell is a centralized agency of the Institute for liaison with Industries to provide in-plant training and placement to students of various courses through campus interviews. The Cell also arranges to obtain industrial problems to be taken up by the students as their project works as well as consultancy/continuing education assignments from the Industries. Many student clubs have been initiated in the institute who will conduct cultural and technical events. Umeed is a social welfare program that aims to help the poor and unfortunate survive the harsh winter by donating clothes. Started in 2015 with the motto For it is in giving that we receive by the students of NIFFT, the program helped more than five hundred people of Ranchi in its first edition. The year 2016 saw the involvement of another educational institution from Ranchi, Central University of Jharkhand, in this social work. The collection and distribution of the clothes is managed by the student from the institutions. The distribution of the clothes will take place after the collected clothes have been sorted and filtered according to their fitness to be worn. On 13th November, 2016 the clothes were distributed in various orphanages and old age homes in Ranchi
