National Research Institute of Aquaculture

National Research Institute of Aquaculture was established in the year 1979 with the aim to promote the research in the field of aquaculture to develop and sustain the growth of fisheries. It was established by the Fisheries Research Agency (FRA) and it was transferred to National Research Institute of Fisheries Science (NRIFS) in the year 2004 and it was re-established as an institute serving not only aquaculture but also resource management in Kuroshio Current coastal zone and inland waters in the year 2011.It has established the laboratories all over the Japan which includes Nansei Main Station which is the main head office of the institute. Laboratories include Tamaki Laboratory, Kamiura Laboratory, Komame Laboratory, Shibushi Laboratory, Minami-Izu Laboratory, Yokosuka Laboratory, Ueda Laboratory, Nikko Laboratory which works on the different aspects for developing the aquaculture section. The institute also established a Nikko Fisheries Science museum displaying various information about fisheries at Fish and Forest Bio-Park in the Nikko Laboratory.
