The National University of Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine is a well- renowned educational research and sports center in the world. NUPESU was established in 1930 in Kharkiv. In 1944 the institute was moved to Kiev and changed its name to Kyiv State Institute of Physical Education. After the independence of Ukraine, in 1995 the university was reorganized in Kyiv National University of Physical Education, which in 1998 acquired the status of national and adopted the name of the National University of Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine. National University of Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine contribute major role to the spread of the university sports programme in Ukraine. The NUPESU consists of faculties and schools like Faculty of Olympic and Professional Sports; Faculty of Health and Physical Education; Joint Faculty in preparation of physicians for the physical culture and sports (with the Bogomolets National Medical University); Faculty of extramural (distance learning) and postgraduate education and Ivano-Frankivsk College of Physical Education. Today NUPESU educated about three thousand students, preparing them for about 300 teachers, of whom about 40 - doctors and professors, more than 100 - PhD and assistant professors.
