The Parc Cientific de Barcelona (PCB) is a part of the Universistat de Barcelona, has been set up with the motive of co-ordinating and facilitating the exchange of knowledge between the university, research centres and business organizations. The Parc Cientific de Barcelona was constituted as a joint effort by the Universitat de Barcelona, the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation and the Caixa Catalunya. The The Parc Cientific de Barcelona was established in 1997 and is also the first science park in Spain. The three main research institutes of PCB are: Institue for research in Biomedicine, Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia and Molecular Biology Institute of Barcelona. State-of-the-art equipment provided through technology platforms are: Proteomics platform, Automated crystallography platform, Combinatorial chemistry unit, Drug discovery platform, Unit of experimental toxicology and ecotoxicology and Research applied on laboratory animals. Other reputed institutes of PCB are: the Barcelona centre for International Studies (CIDOB), Centre for Research on Plant Biodiversity, National center for genome analysis and Centre for Research on Drug Development.
