Pontifical Xavierian University is founded in 1623 and is one of the oldest, traditional and prestigious universities in Columbia. This is recognized as one of the top 12 universities having a high quality institutional accredition, granted by the Ministry of National Education.
The University has 18 schools consisting of 61 departments and 181 academic courses owing to the areas of Knowledge like School of Sciences, School of Engineering, School of Law, School of Medicine, School of Philosophy, School of Theology, School of Social Sciences, School of Education, School of Economics and Management Sciences, School of Political Science and International Relations, School of Dentistry, School of Communication and Language, School of Nursing, School of Psychology, School of Environmental and Rural Studies, School of Arts, School of Design and Architecture.
The University has two libraries: the General Library and the Mario Valenzuela. The latter library is specialized for Theology and Philosophy and is rated the best in these disciplines in Latin America. It has resource centres in the fields of knowledge like Political sciences, Bio-ethics, Law, Architecture, Social Communication, Insurance and Clinical epidemiology.
