About the University: Qingdao Agricultural University (QAU), formerly known as Laiyang Agricultural College, was founded in 1951; the school was awarded university status in 1999. Most of the majors offered are in the agricultural and engineering sciences. QAU has developed herself into a well-balanced comprehensive university, covering sciences, engineering, agriculture, humanities, arts, law, management, economics and etc. QAU was awarded EXCELLENT in the National Undergraduate Teaching Assessment of the Ministry of Education. QAU was ranked 34 nationally in the National Higher Learning Institutions Real Income List from Science and Technology Transfer in 2002. QAU topped the other universities in Shandong Province. For perfect cultural atmosphere, QAU's campus is awarded Shandong Civil Campus.
Academics: QAU comprises 22 schools (departments), 77 full-time four-year undergraduate majors or specialities, 13 first-level disciplines of postgraduate programs, 78 second-level disciplines of postgraduate programs and three professional postgraduate programs.
Campuses: QAU enjoys two campuses and one farm. One campus in Qingdao and the other in Laiyang. The farm in Jiaozhou.
Research from the university: QAU initiated the high-yield theories and techniques for wheat (7,500kg/ha) in 1970s and summer maize (7,500kg/ha) in 1980s. In the new century, QAU has taken a leading role in China in the following areas: bionic pesticides, animal cloning technology, mycorrhiza and marine fungi, crop and fruit breeding, animal reproduction, plant protection, dry-land farming, agro digging machinery, animal disease control, food processing, natural active matters, agro communication science and so forth. In these areas, QAU has caught up with the international advanced counterparts. In the past decade, QAU has undertaken 851 projects at various levels, among which there were 159 national projects, 328 provincial and ministerial projects. QAU has filed 30 patents, and won 44 science and technology awards above the provincial and ministerial level. Currently, QAU has a total research fund of 203 million yuan.
Cooperative Economy: QAU has founded the first College of Cooperative in China. It focuses on the research of cooperative economic system with Chinese characteristics, and carties out both theoretical and practical research on cooperatives.
