About the university
In December 1997, the Chinese University of Hong Kong Education Institute, the Hong Kong Institute of Education and the National Language and Text Committee Putonghua Training and Testing Center signed a cooperation agreement. September 9, 1998, Putonghua Education Research and Development Center was formally established to further promote the Putonghua education, testing, publishing and research work. At present, the center has been equipped with 16 national level professors, can be in accordance with the national language standards for Putonghua proficiency test. In addition to the regular Putonghua proficiency test and guideline courses, the Center also provides Putonghua diagnostic services and accepts business schools and school associations to organize classes. It publishes Putonghua Teaching and Research Letters, conducts Putonghua studies, holds Putonghua teaching and testing seminars , Providing online counseling and circulation of Putonghua teaching and research materials, as well as the relevant groups to provide training and testing of consultancy services. (MPTE) , International Chinese Language Education Masters Degree Program (MTCI) , training Mandarin and Chinese key teachers and pushingspecialists ( Mandarin Language Education)
The Chinese University of Hong Kong Education Institute administration is accountable to a Management Board drawn from senior members of the Faculty of Education of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the HKIER. The Board includes the Dean of Education, the Director of the HKIER, the Director and Associate Director of the Centre and a number of leading experts on Putonghua.
-To conduct periodic Putonghua proficiency tests;
- To offer Putonghua training programmes for members of various professions;
-To offer Master of Arts Programme in Putonghua Education to cultivate core Putonghua Teachers;
-To provide "Putonghua Diagnosis" services for the community at large;
-To publish the Centres newsletter and other publications on Putonghua education;
- To undertake academic research;
- To organize seminars and conferences on proficiency testing and Putonghua teaching;
-To offer consultancy services in Putonghua proficiency testing and teacher training for schools, community centres and other institutions.
Findings five Analysis Full Volume 32 issue of the option, after statistical processing, the summary report is as follows: A students attitudes and opinions Mandarin learning from data, Mandarin group of students in the classroom, like a teacher in Mandarin accounted for 40% As many, do not like the accounted for Liu Cheng, reflecting the secondary school students are not yet fully adapted to use Putonghua learning. Guangzhou dialect group, although they have never used Mandarin to learn Chinese, but still three percent of students like teachers to teach in Mandarin. Putonghua students after a year of study, the teacher with Mandarin teaching degree of admission than the Guangzhou dialect group high, significant difference (t = -2.693, p <.05). Please refer to Figure 1 and Figure 2. The three secondary schools surveyed were located in the same area, with similar levels of students in the first and second groups. A school from the middle to the fifth are used in Mandarin teaching Chinese and history; school and school in Guangzhou to teach Chinese and Chinese history. This teaching language policy, used in three schools for many years. Those who have been interviewed are secondary school students, they have been in school for one year Mandarin or Cantonese teaching. Among the students, about half of the students who have studied Mandarin and have never learned Mandarin in primary school. 4. Survey of the situation the author in January 2000, to the three schools of students sent a questionnaire, students fill in the classroom, and immediately recovered. In this study, 5 classes were randomly selected from A school, 177 were valid questionnaires, and 5 were received from B and C respectively. There were 154 valid questionnaires, ie, 331 questionnaires were analyzed.
