Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology established as a full-fledged University has unique honor of being called “First Agriculture University of the third millennium and the 21st century". It is committed to a unique mandate of integrating education research and extension so as to serve the rural people. The University was established on 2nd October 2000 under Uttar Pradesh Agriculture University Act (revised) 1958 gazette and notified vide 3204A/X12-8-2000. It was inaugurated on 28th March 2002 by the Honorable Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. It is recognized and funded by U.P. Govt. & ICAR, Govt. of India. It is included in the list of recognized Universities maintained by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Govt. of India. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut has unique honour of being called the first Agriculture University of the 21st Century . Present age belongs to Agriculture science and there are several areas where Agriculture Science is directly or indirectly involved. Starting from Agriculture to medicine, health, food, environment etc., Agriculture Science has a pivotal role to play. There is a need to make Agriculture Science education a socially relevant by making it to respond to growing and changing need of the society. Over the past years, Agriculture has recorded considerable growth in physical expansion viz. Student outturn , teaching campus , diversification of job oriented education in highly specialized disciplines , Infrastructural development , Staff strength etc. College of Agriculture has 12 specialized departments and there are B.Sc.(Agriculture) and M.Sc.(Agriculture) and Ph.D. programs in this College . The growth and diversification with the need based specialization is the major mandate of this College i.e. “ to impart education in different disciplines of Agriculture Science , particularly Agronomy, Agricultural Biotechnology, Agricultural Economics & Management, Agriculture Engineering & Food Technology, Agricultural Extension, Basic Science, Entomology, Genetics & Plant Breeding, Horticulture , Animal Husbandry, Plant Pathology and Soil Science. Agriculture education to create human resources who can apply their acquired knowledge and skills to diversify and Industrialize agriculture for Socio-economic transformation of the Rural Society is the major mandate. Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology is located in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India is well-connected to major cities like Delhi, Noida Haridwar etc Two national highway (NH-58 & NH-119) pass through Meerut.

An expressway from Delhi to Meerut and Upper Ganga Expressway which passes through outskirts of the city are under development. There are 2 main bus terminals, namely Bhainsali bus terminal and Sohrab Gate bus terminal from where Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation(UPSRTC) buses ply to cities all over the state. As Meerut has announced a metropolitan city in 2007, JNNURM scheme has been taken place and many low floor city buses are running over the city roads. Shri Ram Naik ji, is the Hon’ble Chancellor of the university and also the Governor of Uttar Pradesh. The governor of the state of Uttar Pradesh is the chancellor of the university and by virtue of his office he is head of the university and presides over convocations of the university. The other powers as conferred on him by University acts and statutes are also exercised by him as and when required his Excellency. The University has a board of management (BOM) as per re-enactment and amendment act 1974 and the vice-chancellor is its ex-officio chairmen. The other ex-officio members are principal secretaries of the state government to the departments of agriculture, finance, higher education and director of agriculture and animal husbandry of Uttar Pradesh. There is 01 member representing the legislative assembly and 05 members representing (01 each) agricultural scientists, progressive farmers, live-stock breeders, distinguished industrialists and outstanding women social workers nominated by state government. Besides, 01 nominee of the ICAR and 01 representative of the registered graduate of the university are also included. Following has been the members of the BOM during 2012-13. The U.P Government has given the responsibility of all around development of the agriculture and rural community in its four divisions i.e Saharanpur, Meerut, Moradabad and Bareilly which consists of 15 districts i.e Saharanpur, Muzaffarangar, Meerut, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Baghpat, Bijnor, Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Baduan and Shahjahanpur. The state of U.P has 09 agro-climatic zones in which 03 falls under the Jurisdiction of this University. The goal of the university shows a sound, viable, vibrant and sustainable rural development, Enhancement of rural income, living and employment through excellence in education, research and extension activities in agricultural and allied sciences, making provision for the education of the rural people of Uttar Pradesh in different branches in study, particularly agriculture, rural industry and business, and other allied subjects.

Furthering the prosecution of research, particularly in agriculture and other allied sciences and undertaking field and extension programmes. The university has signed MOU with various National Institutions like Project Directorate on Cattle, Meerut; Project Directorate on Cropping Systems Research, Modipuram, Meerut; Central Institute for Research on Buffalo, Hisar; Central Institute for Post Harvest Engineering & Technology, Ludhiana; Indian Institute of Remote Sensing Dehradun and National Centre for Integrated Pest Management, IARI, New Delhi etc. These organizations undertake teaching/ research/ extension activities as per their respective mandates aimed at over all increase in productivity of Indian Agric ulture including Livestock sector, to uplift living standards of the farmers through improved scientific agriculture and Animal Hus bandry practices. The MOU has also been prepared and finalized with International Institutes like ICRISAT, Hyderabad; IRRI, Philippine and CIMMYT, Mexico. The MOU with these the organizations will certainly go a long way in achieving scientific goals by way of synergism through mutual sharing of resources and man power in the national interest. This will help in creating human resources which can apply their acquired knowledge and skills to diversify and industrialize agriculture for socio economic transformation of the rural society. The post graduate students will be registered in S.V.B.P. Univ. of Agric. & Tech., Meerut and the scientists of collaborating institutes having necessary qualifications for guidance of Master’s and Doctoral Research will be the co-advisors of the student. IPRs generated through collaborative work under taken with the above institutions shall be the property of two organizations/ personnel as per the ICAR policy in vogue on IPRs.

The college has 17 class rooms with white/green Boards and comfortable seating arrangement. The major class rooms are interactive having facilities of Audio Visual teaching and presentation & DVDS like LCD projection systems enhance the instructional and teaching capabilities. The each department has separate class room UG and PG Lab, Conference Room remaining five class rooms are reserve for various demonstration, presentation, seminar and other development activities. The college has undergraduate and postgraduate laboratories for each department. The laboratories are well maintained with modern research equipment and facilities. The students, research scholar and scientist are smoothly works with the laboratories. The college offers the following degree Programmes: 1. Undergraduate Programmes, B.Sc. Agriculture (Four Year Programme) 2. Postgraduate Programmes : Master and Ph.D Programmes in 11 subjects.
