The school of planning and structure had a modest beginning in 1941. as a department of architecture of Delhi Polytechnic. It become later affiliated to the college of Delhi and included with the faculty of city and planning which changed into established in 1955 by means of the government of India to offer facilities for rural, city and nearby making plans. On integration, the college becomes renamed as school of making plans and structure in 1959. Recognizing the specialized nature of the fields wherein the faculty had attained eminence, in 1979, the authorities of India, thru the then Ministry of training and way of life, conferred on the school of planning and architecture the repute of "Deemed to be a college".
