The Shanghai University of Political Science and Law (Chinese: ä¸Ã‚Š海政æ³Ã‚•学院) is a public university in Shanghai, China, established in 1984. situated at the foot of Sheshan Mountain--the famous scenic resort in Shanghai, Shanghai University of Political Science and Law (SHUPL) is known as the “garden institute”. SHUPL also organises Summer School programs for foreign students to learn the Chinese language and culture and experience Chinese tradition. Guided by a scientific development outlook, SHUPL now has 12 academic schools and other teaching departments.SHUPL also has an outstanding faculty, many of which play a leading role in their academic and research fields and in national academic organisations. SHUPL has always been concentrating on political science and law, endeavoring to work for Shanghai while employing a national vision. The university offers 22 undergraduate programs. They consist of legal studies (specialties comprising criminal justice, civil and commercial Law, intellectual property law, administrative law, economic law, environmental law, financial law and international economic law), penology, political science, business administration, international economics and trade, English language and literature, Chinese language and literature, ideology and political education, and journalism. It has 15 academic departments, including a Department of Law, Economics and Management, Social Science, Foreign Languages, Chinese, Journalism, Education and a Vocational Training Center. The university currently has over 300 staff members. The university also has a team of faculty with solid specialized theory, among whom many are in close touch with the professional circles home and abroad. currently, there are more than 10,000 full-time students on campus, with various levels of postgraduates, undergraduates, associate-degree students and overseas students. There are about about 20 research institutes affiliated to SHUPL. That include, Shanghai Research Institute of Justice Studies, Shanghai Social Psychology Society, Crime Prevention Committee under China Criminology Studies Society, Oriental Research Institute of Legal Culture, and Research Institute of Urban security, etc. The University issues its newspaper and journal (also referred to as the Rule of Law Forum). The university has also founded cooperation with several institutions or universities from countries and regions such as the US, France, Japan and Hong Kong.
