Singapore General Hospital

Singapore General Hospital was established in the year 1821, when the first General Hospital was located in cantonment for troops near the Singapore River. In 1926 with 800 beds in the Bowyer, Stanley and Norris Blocks, the modern history of SGH began again.
In 1989 SGH became a restructured hospital which runs as a private company not for profit institution wholly owned by government. This is an initiative took by the government to enable all public hospitals to be more responsive to the patients and their expectations to provide better services to the public. SGH is under Singapore Health Services or Sing Health which includes 1 other hospital and 5 National Speciality Centres and 9 Polyclinics.
SGH won the Award of Excellence at the APEX Awards 2014. Its main policy is to serve people free of cost and has been designated as a national monument.
