Skoda Auto University was found in 2000 as the first and the only company university in Czech Republic. Its founder is Skoda Auto seated in Mlada Boleslav, is one of the most important and most dynamically evolving companies in Czech Republic and one of the largest brands of the Volkswagen Concern. An indivisible part of the full time bachelor study programme is the student’s internship. Students with an excellent command of foreign language can apply for internships abroad. In both bachelors and master degree programmes emphasis is placed on language acquisition and all students have to study atleast two foreign languages, usually English and German. However they can also select courses in Russian, Spanish or Chinese. Most courses especially in the follow-on master study programme include the global business environment. This university offers bachelors and master’s degree programmes in full-time and part-time modes of study. An integral part this university is a work placement in Czech Republic or abroad. In bachelor’s degree programmes, internships are included in the 5th semester. For their internships, students choose from different departments within Skoda Auto, other partners of Skoda Auto University of foreign companies. Master’s degree students can select a-three month work placement as a part of the block of compulsory elective courses. The work place is intended primarily for students coming from other Universities so that they are able to gain the necessary work experience before completing their studies, which will improve their employment opportunities in the labour market. The application sector participates in the creation and implementation of study programmes both through systemic work of study field councils described in detail in the characteristics of the system of internal and external quality assessment of Skoda Auto University. The study field councils include a significant proportion of stakeholders. The application sector also works very intensively on implementing study programmes as well as direct participation of a number of experts in the teaching process. As a part of external and internal research and consultancy projects, in which the academic personnel of the university are involved, there has been significant cooperation with several actions of Skoda Auto and other partner companies. Specifically, these areas are related primarily to marketing research, use of exact optimisation methods in logistics and purchasing, human resources and statistics. In terms of commercial use of highly qualified employees, the university does not intend to take the route of founding support units such as technology transfer centres, which is certainly a contemporary challenge for number major Czech technical universities. The aim of the Skoda Auto student research grants is to support scientific projects of students studying in a doctoral or master degree programme related to their studies. The student research grant fund is governed by the regulations and policy of the student research grants at this university. The grants may also be used to provide financial support for the organisation of student scientific conferences held to present the results of student research projects at this university. Results of all the projects are regularly presented as a part of the research open day where the main focus is to share the results of the researches. These results are also published in a number of domestic and foreign journals. The publications are monitored and entered in to data base of the council for research, development and innovation data base. Our academics have also published a number of university course books, which are being used throughout the country.
